The Role of People in Politics, Foundations and Its Consequences in Imam Khomeini's Political Thought

Abstract

Abstract
Imam Khomeini with critique of Western democracy and authoritarian governments, seeking to underpin of real democratic political system in religion and interference of the people. In the authoritarian rule, people have no role in society, or at most, they have merely an instrumental role and the ruler enjoy an absolute power. In a Democratic Governance, people have a share in determine fate of Society as well as political, economic, cultural and social affairs. Power is controlled by them. He considers on deterministic role of people in political thought and governance. This article with reference to Imam Khomeini’s works, examines three related issues. First, focuses on the relationship between religion and politics. Second, focuses on the concept of "destiny determination". Third, focuses on the fundamentals of jurisprudence and legal determination of destiny. The findings of the article, show that Imam is anti-reductive in relation with religion and politics. In the second pillar, the key concept in the field of people's interference in society is "determination of destiny," and people have a fundamental role at the three levels of political, civil and social (the establishment, control, support of the political system). These levels of participation are signs of a sustainable democratic society. In the third axis, the most important basis for the legitimacy of the participation of people in the administration of the society are the Imam's Approaches to the Legal references (khetabate Ganooni, Legal Addresses), the Al-Faraq Area and the general religious culture of society, the natural right, the social wisdom and the constitution. Hence, the correct understanding of these principles will be effective in order to achieve the Imam's governance.
