Abstract

The Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on religious teachings, the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, and the guidance of its leaders, has defined support for liberation movements and Islamic movements as an important principle in its constitution and foreign policy. Now, given the great importance of the Southwest Asia region, Iran's prominent position in regional and trans-regional relations, and the role of active movements and movements in regional developments, it is necessary to examine the supportive policies implemented by Iran over the past few decades. In this study, the research question is: What have been the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting liberation movements and Islamic movements? In answering the research question, we have used a descriptive-analytical method and used library, internet, and documentary resources. Also, to examine Iran's policies in this area, it was necessary to use a combination of defensive realism theory and regional security theory. Accordingly, the research findings show that Iran's support policies have relied on predetermined strategies. And in imposed conditions and unpredictable developments, its contingency policies have also been in line with its grand strategies. Iran's grand strategy has been based on three main approaches: consolidating the survival and sustainability of the resistance movements, diversifying their activities, and building regional coalitions.
