Critical Evaluation of Michel Foucault Narration on Islamic Revolution of Iran

Abstract

Islamic revolution of Iran, disregarding of dismantling Iranian old dictatorship and transforming political, social and cultural structures, became a considerable subject for common and new theories in social science and study on this revolution resulted in a paradigmatic turn in examining world order. In this paper, the main concepts, themes and methods which applied by Michel Foucault to analyze Islamic revolution of Iran as an evident against normatizing order and modern discipline and his findings are examined in a documentary and critical method. The findings of this paper show that Michel Foucault degrades Islamic revolution of Iran as a kind of modernity critique and rebellion against world order and neglects affirmative and nonreactive aspects of this revolution. The result of such analysis is disability of Foucault theoretical approach to analyze and accept consequences and results of Islamic revolution which led to changing his position as analyst on Islamic revolution in the post revolution era.
