هدف: سیاست اخلاقی از مؤلفه‌هایی برخوردار است که در مدیران سیاسی یک نظام همچون جمهوری اسلامی ظهور و بروز دارد. چرا که سیاست، حوزه بسیار حساس و آفت‌خیزی است و امکان گرفتاری در دام‌های اخلاقی در آن به‌شدت محسوس است. آیت‌الله مهدوی‌کنی یکی از مدیرانی به‌شمار می‌رود که به‌مثابه یک عالم وارسته دینی، درجات اجتهاد را گذرانده و با ورود به سیاست، توانسته به درستی در این راه گام بردارد. هدف اصلی مقاله این است که مؤلفه‌های سیاست اخلاقی در نظر و عمل آیت‌الله مهدوی‌کنی در مواجهه با 5 گروه مخالفان، دوستان، دشمنان، خود و عموم مردم را به‌دست آورد. روش‌شناسی پژوهش: نگارندگان با استفاده از روش تحلیل مضمون منابع موجود در مورد آیت‌الله مهدوی کنی تلاش کردند تا از رهرو این تحلیل‌ها، مؤلفه‌های سیاست اخلاقی آیت‌الله مهدوی‌کنی را در مواجهه با این پنج گروه استخراج کنند. یافته‌ها: عبارتند از مؤلفه‌هایی همچون اولویت و منافع اسلام و نظام در همه حال، ولایتمداری، تکلیف‌گرایی، قانون‌مداری، شرع‌محوری، رعایت انصاف در موضع‌گیری‌های سیاسی، رعایت تقوا در موضع‌گیری‌های سیاسی، رعایت ادب در موضع‌گیری‌های سیاسی، نتیجه محوری در مسائل سیاسی و اجتماعی به جای نیت خوانی، وحدت روحانیت، مدارا کردن، انقلابی‌گری، عدم تمایل به پست و مقام، تفکر غیرجناحی، رعایت اخلاق در انتخابات‌ها، اخلاص، رعایت اعتدال و دوری از افراط و تفریط، جذب حداکثری، مردمی بودن و تمایل به گمنامی؛ همچنین هر کدام از این دلالت‌ها در گروه‌های 5 گانه در ذیل یک مفهوم قرار گرفته است که این مفاهیم عبارتند از حق‌مداری، ثبات و استمرار روحانیت، دین محوری، تکلیف‌گرایی، توصیه و نصیحت. نتیجه‌گیری: آیت الله مهدوی کنی در طول دوران حیات خود مانند سیاستمداری حرکت نمودند که متناسب با چارچوب‌های اخلاقی عمل می‌کردند و هیچ‌گاه از این چارچوب‌ها در میدان سیاست عبور نکردند.
